SAN FRANCISCO – August 5, 2013 – Engine Yard, the leading Platform as a Service (PaaS), today announced the next milestone in its multi-cloud vision with the general availability release of Engine Yard on Windows Azure. Developers and IT professionals now can use the Engine Yard open source based platform running on Microsoft’s enterprise-grade infrastructure to quickly and easily deploy web and mobile apps.
“We are dedicated to making our platform more extensible and flexible, so developers have the most choice for cloud application development,” said Bill Platt, senior vice president of operations at Engine Yard. “The integration with Windows Azure is part of our continuing platform evolution that leverages the new architecture we rolled out earlier this year. This architecture provides developers with both automation and control of their platform, while also reducing the risk of relying on a single infrastructure.”
Windows Azure customers can purchase an Ubuntu-based, pre-defined configuration, optimized by Engine Yard, that manages five servers. This offering is a basic add-on in the Windows Azure Store and includes two servers in an HAProxy load balancing cluster, two servers in a Ruby application cluster and one server in a MySQL Percona cluster.
“We’re excited about Engine Yard running on Windows Azure because now we have a powerful combination of a commercial-grade platform and an enterprise-ready infrastructure provider,” said Phil Misiowiec, founder at Webficient. “We’re working on delivering services that solve the challenges of storing protected health information related to HIPAA requirements, and the Engine Yard and Microsoft alliance gives us a solution that no other provider offers.”
As part of its support for Windows Azure, Engine Yard is introducing a flexible new user interface, based on AngularJS, that builds on the UI preview the company shared earlier this year with the announcement of its new architecture.
The Engine Yard add-on is available today in the Windows Azure store. Pricing for the basic Engine Yard add-on is $99 per month, which includes standard support. For premium support which includes proactive incident response and 24/7 monitoring, the price is $149 per month. To mark the debut of Engine Yard in the Windows Azure store, customers purchasing the Engine Yard add-on will get a special rate of $1 for the first month. Engine Yard also provides comprehensive cloud support services for customers who have custom requirements. For more information, visit www.engineyard.com/azure.
