Company Recognized for Innovation and Leadership in Cloud Computing
SAN FRANCISCO – July 1, 2014 – Engine Yard, the leading cloud application management platform, has been selected by the editors at SD Times for a 2014 SD Times 100 Award for Cloud Computing. The award was announced in the June 2014 issue of BZ Media’s SD Times and on www.sdtimes.com.
Each year the SD Times 100 recognizes top companies and individuals in multiple software development sectors. Winners are selected by the editors of SD Times and SDTimes.com, who judge nominees on the innovation and leadership they have demonstrated during the past calendar year, and how they have influenced the software development industry.
In 2013, Engine Yard undertook a number of initiatives that were designed to help developers and DevOps teams build and manage great applications. Among the enhancements to its offerings, Engine Yard added support for Java, giving customers greater choice in languages for building and deploying apps; and support for Microsoft Azure, which provided users with even more flexibility in Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) options. Additionally, Engine Yard launched a Managed support offering that enables customers and partners to have professional services engineers at Engine Yard run and manage applications on their behalf, as well as provide strategic counsel and planning services.
"The software development industry has always been competitive, but never more so given the innovation we're seeing in so many spaces, including mobile, cloud, SaaS, DevOps/ALM, developer tools, quality assurance and Big Data," said David Rubinstein, editor-in-chief of BZ Media's SD Times. "For the 2014 SD Times 100, our editors carefully considered each nominee's products and services, thought leadership and reputation. Thanks to companies like Engine Yard, the future for software development is very bright."
Engine Yard also has shown its commitment to the developer community in several ways. In addition to sponsoring more than 65 community events to promote education and exchange of ideas in cloud and software development, Engine Yard launched its inaugural developer conference Distill in 2013. Distill, which is being held August 7-8 this year, provides a forum for builders and innovators in web and mobile technology to explore the latest software development methods, innovative hardware platforms and unique solutions to common problems. Engine Yard maintained its commitment to open source, employing top industry experts and contributing to a wide set of projects across the Ruby on Rails, PHP and Node.js communities, as well as sponsoring the Open Source Software (OSS) community grant program, which helps critical projects and OSS contributors gain traction while growing their user and contributor bases.
“We are honored to receive this award for the third time, validating our leadership position in the cloud computing market,” said Rob Walters, CTO of Engine Yard. “We are committed to delivering an innovative and cost-effective cloud application management platform along with deep expertise and support, so our customers can nimbly and quickly deploy apps and launch time-sensitive projects that drive their business growth.”
