Leading Platform as a Service Hosts JRubyConf
SAN FRANCISCO – February 29, 2012 – Engine Yard, the leading Platform as a Service (PaaS), today announced the lineup of keynote speakers and sponsors for the fourth annual JRubyConf to be held at the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis, May 21 through 23. JRuby, a Java implementation of the Ruby programming language, is a popular open source package that enables Ruby applications to run on the Java Virtual Machine (JVM).
The event, which brings together Java and Ruby developers, among others, expects to draw record attendance this year. The three-day event includes keynotes from the JRuby open source project’s core contributors, with details on the latest advancements in JRuby. The JRubyConf call for proposals is open and will be accepting speaker submissions through March 31.
Attendees of JRubyConf will benefit from innovative conference sessions in addition to networking opportunties. Sessions will range from technical topics delving into JRuby and the wider JVM ecosystem to broader discussions surrounding software development, collaboration, and community building. Thomas Enebo and Charles Nutter of Engine Yard, Jeff Casimir of Jumpstart Labs, Venkat Subramaniam of Agile Developer, and Yoko Harada of the JRuby core team will all be presenting, with many more luminary speakers to be announced. The event is hosted by Engine Yard and EdgeCase and current conference sponsors include 8th Light, Clean Coders, CodeRow, New Relic, Pivotal Labs, SendGrid, Space150. There will be after hours events including a whisky tasting sponsored by Bruichladdich on the evening of the 2nd day.
“JRubyConf has evolved over the last four years to become the definitive event for developers looking to learn how to take advantage of the strong combination of Ruby and Java,” said Charles Nutter, co-lead of the JRuby project and developer at Engine Yard. “JRuby allows developers to take advantage of the efficiency of Ruby while leveraging their existing investment in Java libraries and code.”
JRubyConf is an event to foster and grow the community as well. Alongside JRubyConf, there will be two community programming workshops: a RailsBridge workshop for women presenting Ruby, Rails and web development; and a Kids Code Camp workshop for introducing programming to middle school and high school students. Details and registration for these events are coming soon.
