Engine Yard Experiences Tremendous Growth and Delivers New Features to Extend Global Reach

Innovative Companies Such as BuyWithMe, Get Satisfaction, Howcast, PlayMesh, Vitrue and Others Have Adopted Engine Yard for Building High Performance Web Applications in the Cloud

SAN FRANCISCO - April 27, 2011 – Engine Yard, the leading Ruby on Rails development and deployment platform for the cloud, today announced it has achieved tremendous growth with 125% increase in monthly recurring revenue year over year. The company has also doubled its customer base year over year with more than 2,000 paying customers on the Engine Yard cloud. Long-term customers such as BuyWithMe, Get Satisfaction, Howcast, PlayMesh and Vitrue have been joined by fast-growing startups including Dealer Ignition, MaxMedia, MogoTix and MUBI as well as Fortune 500 enterprises.

“We had 17 days to create and deliver the NBA All-Star Pulse web application, and Engine Yard provided scalability, high performance, and fast, reliable service to help us achieve our goal,” said James Wright, Director of Technology for MaxMedia. “We beat our deployment time estimates by 50% and hit our scalability targets to serve over 100,000 users in the 60 hours of All-Star Weekend."

In addition, Engine Yard now has over 200 companies in its Partner Network, making it the largest Ruby on Rails partner program. These technology providers, developers and digital agencies help clients deploy applications on Engine Yard by delivering extensive technical expertise, products and services.

“Many high-profile consumer Web firms are choosing Ruby on Rails to rapidly build scalable web applications,” said Eric Knipp, Research Director at Gartner. “Ruby on Rails has the potential to emerge as a strong alternative platform to traditional choices based on Java and .NET for next-generation enterprise applications, as companies seek improved agility, development speed and time to market.”

To continue to drive adoption of its products, Engine Yard announced three new features to help customers and partners more effectively manage AppCloud deployments and improve end-user experience: * Users can now collaborate across one or more shared projects. This is perfect for projects with multiple developers or for development firms that are building applications for their clients. * Applications can now be deployed and managed in any Amazon Web Services (AWS) region, including: US East, US West, Europe, Asia Pacific, and Japan. * Self Support customers can now submit issues using the Engine Yard ticket system, resulting in faster response times and resolution. All customers can now interact with the Engine Yard Support team, regardless of support level.

Engine Yard has delivered a series of initiatives in 2011 that are driving awareness and increasing adoption of Ruby on Rails as the platform of choice for fast growing, high performance web applications: * Developers can now start quickly and test drive the full functionality of Engine Yard AppCloud by running applications free of charge for up to 500 hours - no credit card required. * Engine Yard University Authorized Partner Training Program was launched to expand the availability of training classes, increase the number of qualified Rails developers and contribute to the growth of the Ruby on Rails community. * Engine Yard recently developed and released ey-migrate, a tool that lets developers easily transition applications to Engine Yard AppCloud.

“Engine Yard is experiencing tremendous growth, and we’re rapidly adding both high-growth web startups and Fortune 500 enterprises to our customer base,” said John Dillon, CEO of Engine Yard. “By choosing to run their Rails applications in the cloud, customers free up resources to build compelling products that drive their success, and they’re able to scale quickly in response to user demand. This compelling value proposition is fueling the growth of Engine Yard.”
