New Site Features Content from Community and Engine Yard Rails Experts to Educate Rubyists and Accelerate Enterprise Adoption of Ruby
SAN FRANCISCO, April 7, 2010 – Engine Yard, the leading cloud computing platform for Ruby on Rails, today announced Rails Dispatch, a new Rails-focused content site available at http://www.railsdispatch.com Beginning today, the site will feature a continuous stream of cutting-edge technical Rails content, including blog posts, videos, and written code tutorials to support the fast growing community of developers that rely on Ruby on Rails. Rails Dispatch will also cover how developers can use Ruby and Rails to enhance existing Java applications, and how developers using other languages such as PHP can benefit by switching to Rails.
"The Rails community is constantly growing, and especially with a major release, there's a need for in-depth educational content like this," said Aaron Patterson, a Rails Dispatch contributor and developer at AT&T Interactive. "There are new developers coming to Ruby and Rails every day; I do what I can to help on-board them, and Rails Dispatch is another one of those opportunities."
The launch of Rails Dispatch follows the recent announcement of the Ruby Summer of Code project. Modeled after Google’s Summer of Code program, Ruby companies, organizations, and community members joined forces to raise more than $100,000 in just three days, funding 20 internship opportunities for the upcoming summer. The first content released on Rails Dispatch today is a screencast demonstrating how to build a blog application using Rails 3. Rails Dispatch will publish content for experienced Rubyists as well as developers just learning about the Rails framework on a regular basis, culminating with coverage of RailsConf 2010 in June. A sampling of upcoming Rails Dispatch topics includes:
- Tutorials on key Rails components such as Bundler, ActionMailer and ActiveRecord
- Updates on how Rails 3 improves the overall Ruby on Rails ecosystem
- How Rails 3 can help developers get more out of their investment in Java
- How developers using languages such as PHP can benefit by switching to Rails
"Because Rails 3 is a major release that provides Rails developers with powerful new capabilities, we created Rails Dispatch as a convenient resource of high-value educational content for the Ruby community," said Yehuda Katz, a member of the Ruby on Rails core team and developer at Engine Yard.
