Engine Yard Previews New Rails in the Cloud Service at RailsConf

Engine Yard Flex is geared towards business web applications that need reliability, scaling, and professional support 24x7

RAILSCONF, Las Vegas, Nev. (May 6, 2009) – Continuing to set the standard for deploying Ruby on Rails applications to the cloud, Engine Yard previewed the latest offering in its suite of cloud solutions to attendees at this year’s RailsConf, the premier conference for Rails developers. This new cloud service, Engine Yard Flex, allows businesses to conveniently scale resources as their needs grow.

Engine Yard Flex introduces unique new features like environment cloning and one-button deployment as well as essential features for agile operations, such as automatic deployment from a version control system and application server auto-recovery. The new offering expands the reach of the popular Ruby on Rails framework, giving developers an easy way to access the benefits of Rails when developing for the cloud. Flex continues to build Ruby on Rails’ advantage as the easiest and most cost effective platform for developing and deploying web applications.

"Large numbers of developers and organizations have already adopted Ruby on Rails because of its superior development productivity, and are increasingly considering cloud services as their default deployment platform," said Tom Mornini, CTO of Engine Yard. "Engine Yard Flex is the natural cloud choice for Ruby on Rails applications that need easy scaling and reliability."

Engine Yard Flex is a cloud service for customers that want to leverage the on-demand flexibility of a public cloud, but need application level scaling, reliability, and support. It includes production features such as load balanced web and application servers and database failover—all backed by the 24x7 availability and expertise of the Engine Yard support team.

Flex is the latest addition to the Engine Yard suite of solutions for Rails in the Cloud, which now includes:

* Engine Yard Solo: a public cloud service for small-scale web applications that run within a single compute instance. Starting at just $25/month.
* Engine Yard Slices: a fully managed service running on the Engine Yard private cloud, suitable for high scale applications with unique requirements such as safe harbor or SAS70 datacenter certification.

Engine Yard Flex will be available on Amazon EC2 in June, at which time the complete feature set and pricing will be announced.
