Engine Yard to Sponsor First Ever MerbCamp

Registration opens today for first official Merb community gathering in October

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - September 9, 2008 – Engine Yard, provider of the leading Ruby and Rails deployment platform, today announced its sponsorship of MerbCamp, the first official gathering of the Merb community, which takes place October 11-12 on the University of California at San Diego (UCSD) campus. Registration opens today at www.merbcamp.com

Starting October 8, Merb core team members will be on the ground in San Diego to put the final touches on the Merb 1.0 release. Interested developers are invited to participate and stay through MerbCamp.

This year’s inaugural MerbCamp is organized by SD Ruby, San Diego’s Ruby community, and will feature keynotes from Engine Yard co-founder and Merb’s creator, Ezra Zygmuntowicz, as well as Merb developer and maintainer Yehuda Katz.

Merb, the open source Rails-inspired MVC framework, is fast, light, and agile. Thread-safe and engineered to handle multiple requests quickly and efficiently, Merb is easy to understand, maintain, and extend, with its well-organized and simple core code. Engine Yard sponsors development of the Merb project.

“Advancements in Merb depend on the innovation and activity that are the hallmarks of the Ruby community,” said Zygmuntowicz. “Merb’s best qualities are that it’s approachable and hackable - it can do anything you want. That’s the kind of vibe I’m expecting to see at MerbCamp – there will be some instructional sessions, but also a lot of group discussion on what Merb can do and where developers think it should go from here.”
