FAQ

Q: How does Engine Yard pricing relate to the type and size of my server?
The only time this matters is the incremental, consumption based usage on the AWS EC2 side.  All Engine Yard PaaS and Support is the same once a support plan is selected for that Environment.
Q: How did we calculate the typical average costs our customers see?
We included the following discounts and assumptions in our average costs. Compute costs include a 10% discount for on-demand pricing. AWS costs are an estimate: 20% of compute costs. We determined comparison prices using Standard and Premium support costs and adding an extra $1,000 per month to the pricing of another PaaS on the market. Additional AWS charges may apply; these include snapshot storage, S3 storage for backups, elastic IP addresses, EBS volumes, bandwidth changes, and Elastic Load Balancers (if used).
Q: How does my selected support level (or levels) affect my price for Engine Yard services?
To compare what’s offered for each support level, review the Summary of Support Plans.
Q: What do additional AWS services cost?
Additional AWS service costs may apply, including Amazon S3, EBS, ELB, reserved IP addresses, and more. These additional services are provided through Engine Yard with 10% uplift from Amazon’s published pricing.
Q: What about instance costs when you have your own AWS account?
When you bring your own credentials from AWS, we don’t bill you for any AWS service. That still happens through your own AWS account. If you have any credits or special rates from AWS, those all still apply. To get started with Engine Yard Cloud, simply choose the level of support you need from us: Platform, Standard and/or Premium. Most customers typically have a mix of support levels to match their needs.
Q: If you go directly to Amazon, will you see a better price on AWS resources?
It depends. In most cases, the answer is no. We automatically pass any price reductions in IaaS costs to you, plus an additional 10% savings over regional IaaS prices. This is reflected on your monthly bill immediately. However, if you have buying power or a better price than On Demand, bringing your own credentials to Engine Yard may be advantageous for you.
